Thanks for the question. Shedding usually reduces in 2-5 weeks IF THE SHEDDING WAS COMING FROM THE SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS. If the shedding is actually not coming from the seborrheic dermatitis, then it’s not going to stop! It may not stop “completely” of course even if seborrheic dermatitis is the culprit because some amount of shedding is completely normal. (we all lose 50-70 hairs per day). What we are looking for is a REDUCTION IN SHEDDING.
Yes, I might reduce frequency of shampoo use if redness and scaling decrease because often the shedding is coming from a different reason in a situation like this and NOT the seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis can give some shedding – but usually not massive amounts. That’s pretty rare for seborrheic dermatitis to give dramatic shedding. So if redness and scaling are reducing and shedding is still high then I will assume the shedding is coming from another reason. The most common reason for shedding in a situation like this is androgenetic alopecia. Other reasons like telogen effluvium, scarring alopecia also need to be explored. A full evaluation is needed.

Surprisingly, there is not. I agree with you that I think we need to be little more aware and a little more concerned of many of these topical products (antibacterial agents, preservatives, etc) in our cosmetics. Both from the human health and environmental view.
