The main goal is to find the cause. There are many causes of hair casts. Different causes will need to be treated differently. Casts are not necessarily a problem, so if the patient is not bothered then no treatment is needed. However, if treatment is needed, and the cause can not be found then a change in hair products can be useful as well as use of shampoos containing salicylic acid to lift of the casts. All efforts should be undertaken to find the cause however, - including a biopsy if needed.
